'Expendables 2,' 'Abraham Lincoln' Posters Promise Action Aplenty
You will be forgiven for not expecting nuance in the promotional material for "The Expendables 2." Despite what the marketing team might think, there doesn't need to be much other than a list of names against a black background, maybe crafted out of bullets or fire or blood. You know those names -- Stallone, Statham, Li, Willis, Van Damme, and Schwarzenegger, to name a few -- and what the first "Expendables" movie was about. The new one-sheet shows Stallone standing in the frame of a "2" carved out of concrete, lit ablaze against a rocky foreground. Check that out, plus the first "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" poster, beyond the jump. Stallone is holding a gun, and he means business, all business. How could you expect anything different? "Expendables 2" drops in the summer, when we'll all be thirsting for just a little more action than the norm. On the contrary, the poster for "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" teases the action, rather than dumping us right in it. There's Honest Abe sitting in a chair underneath a full moon, holding his hat in one hand and an axe in the other. We can't see his face, but we don't need to. In another poster, Abe holds the same pose while sitting in the Oval Office, always a reliable hub for undead-killing action. The serious tone is befitting of the very serious official synopsis, which reads, "'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation." Because, yes, all of that happened. The Confederacy was led by vampires, and Abe himself rode out on horseback to slay their leader, Jefferson Dracula. His hat was made of magic, his beard made of silver, and night hunters everywhere trembled wherever he walked. I need to believe it; I want to believe it. "Vampire Hunter" hits theaters next summer, on June 22. Tell us what you think in the comments section and on Twitter!

'New Year's Eve': The Key Movie Available
Oddly enough absent within the Oscar discussion up to now this season can be a small film, getting a largely unknown cast, that can take in the difficulties of aging possibly a lot better than almost every other film that I've come across. Oddly marketed by Warner Bros. just like a comedy getting a coherent plot, 'New Year's Eve' stays out most significantly due to its jagged inadequate cohesion. It takes a brave filmmaker to feature the talents of both Ryan Seacrest and Jim Belushi in a single film. Garry Marshall, the director of'New Year's Eve,' is always that filmmaker. Before we could properly know the message this movie is trying to supply, we ought to first discover concerning the forces that drive this small but resilient cast of figures. A cast of figures who, despite being so completely connected, attempt to speak only around the telephone with one another instead of face-to-face. Even if they are inside the same room, they remain so completely unaware of 1 another's presence they never really share a scene. This narrative disjointedness can be a apparent metaphor for your disconnect within our society. A more compact director gives towards the temptation to permit his cast people share no less than a few moments together, but Garry Marshall is just too clever to come under the trap of creating an intelligible film with figures that you are instructed to bother with. By not focusing on any single character more than four minutes at any time, he forces the viewer to request painful queries about society generally and what's become from this. Really, more frequently than once as you are watching 'New Year's Eve,' I believed to myself, My God, what's happening towards the society? Because of this 'New Year's Eve' sticks out. Because of this 'New Year's Eve' doesn't just define cinema it defines us. Ingrid, carried out by an actress named Michelle Pfeiffer ('Wolf'), is alone. She works employment she hates (inside the music business -- I'm speaking about, is it possible to imagine your job so terrible?) for just about any boss she despises, carried out by John Lithgow ('Ricochet'). How sleazy is Lithgow? When Ingrid demands her year-finish bonus, Lithgow immediately hands her an inspection with an unknown amount that appears, knowing from Ingrid's facial expression, being under what she'd expected. How this kind of vile creature is permitted to roam our world this author will not ever understand. There is however hope that Ingrid will transcend her attenuated conditions, which hope involves the person from the bicycle courier named Paul (Zac Effron). Paul, who's thirty years youthful than Ingrid, might be the personification of Marshall's belief that age is not important. The truth is, Paul's sister is carried out by Nicole Kidman ('Striking Distance') -- even though Parker is 22 years older than Efron. With a viewer, it's apparent that Parker may well be more appropriate for the role of Efron's mother instead of individuals of his sister, but Efron's character never questions the film's subtly aberrant internal logic. He's oblivious to age and customary sense. No scene more wholly includes this in comparison to one inch which Paul takes Ingrid to Tiffany's. The Two are proven riding Paul's scooter up sixth Ave in Manhattan. An instantaneous later, they are seen riding up first Ave, seven avenues for the east. Then, as soon as next, they reach Tiffany's on Madison Ave, five avenues back west. The road Paul chooses perfectly demonstrates how a scattershot incongruencies of 'New Year's Eve' represent people that belongs to them youth, and ours. Oscar-champion Robert P Niro ('The Fan') gives his most commanding performance inside a very long time, playing a man who stays the majority of his screen time asleep in the hospital bed mattress. His physician, Cary Elwes (reprising his memorable role just like a physician in 'No Strings Attached') gives P Niro's Stan no chance of which makes it through until the very next day, even though Stan appears for the unskilled eye being perfectly healthy and well-nourished, an anomaly that serves only to increase the risk for situation much more tragic. Stan stays his waking moments lamenting the failure of his relationship along with his daughter, carried out by two-time Oscar-champion Hillary Swank ('The Core'), with a nurse referred to by Oscar-champion Halle Berry ('The Flintstones'). It's evidence of Marshall's courage just like a director that, when Swank finally involves pay last respects to her father, not merely one word regarding not successful relationship is even stated. The truth is, no test is required. Everything everyone else have to know is mentioned with the look on actors' faces -- a peek that clearly signals, "I'd would rather be anywhere than where I am at this time around.Inch Jon Bon Jovi plays Jenson, who, furthermore to becoming the love interest of Katherine Heigl ('Bride of Chucky'), is known to inside the film as "typically the most popular act inside the music business.Inch Jon Bon Jovi will celebrate his 50th birthday on March 2. This feisty swipe within the music industry's reliance on youth dovetails with Marshall's serial assaults around the west of consumerism and blatant self-promotion. How else to explain Marshall's decision to complete the film getting a dramatic close-on the building-size Occasions Square billboard imprinted while using poster for the next Warner Bros. film, 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game Title Title of Shadows'? And the way else to explain how Blu-ray copies of Marshall's last film, 'Valentine's Day,' end up emerging within the vaginal part of the key character. (This really happens.) Whether or not this weren't so apparent that Marshall's hate within our consumerist culture has driven him to near-reckless functions of self-sabotage, I'd be tempted to think about, "Wow, Garry Marshall has truly be considered a hack." I'm speaking about, a rational individual could also request, "Why Seth Meyers and Jessica Biel during this movie?" -- since their story about trying to offer the first baby in the year has absolutely nothing associated with the comfort in the movie. However non-participation while using relaxation in the story is strictly the primary reason they belong in this particular movie. And when you really need to request what i am saying with this, i quickly am warning you: for no reason should you ever see 'New Year's Eve.' Ever. Ashton Kutcher is at this movie, and warrants special credit due to not turning up in a single scene that's at all memorable. It takes a distinctive talent to know when you just get taken proper care of and permit the script perform miracle. Every single person connected using this movie needs to be ashamed. I'm speaking about, just like a society, we have to be ashamed this movie even must exist to supply this content it so strongly conveys. That is what measures we now have fallen, and fortunately 'New Year's Eve' will there be to select us up. Mtss is a person's on a lot of us. But every guy, lady and child relating to this Earth must have to look at 'New Year's Eve,' because if you feel you don't have any responsibility due to its existence, you need a really hard have a look at yourself inside the mirror. Harry Potter Attraction Headed To Universal Studios Hollywood
First Published: December 6, 2011 3:28 PM EST Credit: Warner Bros. Caption Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- In a spray of confetti and a hoisting of mugs of butterbeer, Universal Studios executives said Tuesday that the company will spend several hundred million dollars to build a Harry Potter attraction inside its existing Hollywood theme park, mimicking the success of a similar park in Orlando, Fla. The attraction will create more than 1,000 jobs at Universal and even more indirectly from an expected boost in tourism, officials said. At the same time, Orlandos Wizarding World of Harry Potter will get an expansion. Since the Harry Potter attraction opened in Florida in June of last year, attendance has jumped by about 50 percent. It was a game changer for us and frankly for Orlando, Universal Studios president Ron Meyer told reporters after the event. The expansion in Orlando will make it that much more of a must-see, and well have the same experience here. Executives did not immediately detail their plans for the Hollywood park, but Meyer said there was enough room to expand. Were not landlocked, Meyer said. Were (on) 400 acres on this lot and 200 of them are still not developed. Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said he was told that a live concert venue, Gibson Amphitheatre, would be scrapped to make way for the attraction. He said it would open around 2014, but officials did not give a date. Comcast Corp. bought a majority stake in NBCUniversal in January in a $13.5 billion deal. It bought out its 50 percent partner in the Universal Orlando theme park, The Blackstone Group, for $1.03 billion in June. In the nine months through September, its theme-park revenue rose 33 percent from a year ago to $1.49 billion, while operating cash flow jumped 61 percent to $644 million. That makes it Comcasts second-most profitable division behind pay TV channels, accounting for just under a quarter of the operating cash flow overall. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. Actress' Suit Puts Focus on Age as Job Barrier
La (AP) Countless-dollar suit by an actress who claims her job prospects were damaged when she was outed online just like a 40-year-old has run smack in to the usual understanding: If Sandra Bullock, 47, and Helen Mirren, 66, have become steady work, prejudice against older stars surely must have disappeared.Film stars Meryl Streep, Halle Berry and Glenn Close may also be people in the 40-plus and employed club. On Tv, many of the "Desperate Regular folksInch female leads are approaching 50, while Emmy Award-winning Julianna Margulies of "The Truly Amazing Wife" is 44.But industry affiliates and unions say star energy obscures the ageism gap between high-profile artists and dealing stiffs a unique part of Hollywood's division in the haves and possess-nots."There is a inclination for individuals to consider the heavens we view constantly and whose names everyone knows,In . mentioned Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the Screen Stars Guild's deputy national executive director and general counsel."Nevertheless the huge the majority of figures on tv and film are referred to by people we don't know and that are fighting to make a living becoming an actor," he mentioned.Want good good examples? Consider searching a movie's closing credits to identify an actress in the minor role, or perhaps the somewhat familiar face that seems since the guest victim or killer around the TV crime drama.Older stars face more employing hurdles than their male options, according to employment statistics from SAG as well as the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, together with the bond with people round the front lines.Women over 40 constitute 24.three percent in the U.S. population, this year's census found. In comparison, union casting analysis show stars over four decades old get 12.5 % of roles for television and film. Males of the age may also be of a quarter in the population but nearly equal their ranks in casting.(Television doesn't succeed by women overall, that are 50.8 percent in the U.S. population but they're seen in basically one fourth of roles, according to union statistics.)The look is not anymore attractive if the involves earnings inside the youth-obsessed industry. This Season, for example, stars age groups 41 to 50 used in SAG-covered film and tv projects acquired a complete $58 million in contrast for the $160 million paid out to stars because age group. The guild is heartened with the high-profile older stars that are finding work, especially on tv, and Crabtree-Ireland mentioned, "Hopefully that this is actually the oncoming of a trend its our people, but our data doesn't demonstrate that.InchAmongst the groundbreakers are Close, 64, of "Damages" as well as the approaching theatrical release "Albert Nobbs" Kyra Sedgwick, 46, of "The Closer" and Marg Helgenberger, 52, "CSI: Crime Scene Analysis."That's progress, thinking about the truth that celebrity Bette Davis was 42 when she carried out a ageing actress round the fringe of irrelevance in "About Eve" (1950) and was 56 when she starred becoming an senior citizens "spinster" climbing lower into madness in "Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte now now" (1964).Compare that to Dana Delaney and her role just like a smart, sexy medical examiner in "Body of Proof." Delaney turns 56 next March."It's a miracle I'm working,Inch mentioned Salma Hayek, 45, whose credits are the lately released "Puss in Boots" and "Frida" (2002), that they received an Oscar nomination. "They described you might never work because I have the accent. ... They described you will not work after 35 or 30, and I have not been more busy throughout my existence." But non-marquee artists go to a different script. The suit filed in October by an actress recognized only as "Jane Doe" indicates that "lesser-known forty-year-old stars aren't desired inside the entertainment business."How her age increased being public is incorporated in the center in the suit. She states it absolutely was online Movie Database Professional website IMDbPro, the subscription-based counterpart for the popular and free IMDb, which are subsidiaries of Amazon . com . com.com. IMDbPro's web page boasts that "Industry Affiliates Use Professional," that delivers 80,000 representation records for stars, company company directors, and producers. People records generally include, among credits and contacts, birth dates."It's be considered a really large tool inside our business. But it's be considered a hindrance for the working actor," mentioned agent Marilyn Szatmary, someone in SMS Talent in La. There's an increasing addiction to having an actor's chronological age to judge them for just about any role, instead of assessing age they could "play" on-screen, she mentioned."You obtain around the telephone getting a casting director and you also make an effort to pitch someone for just about any role, say a 30-year-old character, as well as the actor legitimately can also enjoy 30," Szatmary mentioned. "Nevertheless the casting director continues IMDBPro and states, 'No, this states they're 35.' Plus they're not going to contact them.InchWhat Crabtree-Ireland calls "the IMDb problem" has triggered a lot of complaints from guild people in the last 4 to 5 years. Youthful stars might be affected too, he mentioned, recalling a 22-year-old who, when her age was revealed online, abruptly stopped getting juvenile roles she'd routinely carried out.Industry changes, like the rise of reality TV series and reduced film production, have reduced the free use stars making employing more competitive. In this particular crowded area, a guest role around the TV series for instance "Grey's Anatomy" can draw 2,000 distribution, Szatmary mentioned. This is why people responsible for filling roles desire to use all tools available, casting company company directors say. Stars may boast of being youthful and may publish misleading photos online, mentioned casting veteran Sheila Manning. ("The photos they are using are, shall we're saying, Photoshopped," she mentioned.)Once they look appropriate for that part they'll be considered regardless of what their ages are, Manning mentioned."It's better now. There's more use them (veteran artists), probably because the people employing choices are also getting older,In . Manning mentioned. "I don't think we cast by age, In my opinion we cast by looks. Have a look at Susan Sarandon, who's 65. She looks spectacular."Isabella Hoffman, 52, whose credits include "Princess Journals 2" and TV's "Homicide: Existence all the timeInch and "Criminal Minds," tries to head off being typecast by age and, like many working stars in Hollywood, looks youthful than her years. But she sees the problem in the bigger, more intractable context."Our belief system in the united states is 'youth rules.' That's what individuals need to visit. We now have based plenty of our options in what we sell, that which you placed on ... on a more youthful group."Asked for when helps it be especially tough for artists, she replies. "I am unsure. You may think about the switch side." She paused, after which it added getting a rueful laugh, "I am unable to think about the switch side."SAG and IMDb reps are actually meeting around the nearly two-year period to talk about losing age groups within the site, Crabtree-Ireland mentioned, while using guild delivering a proposal he declined to detail. AFTRA together with other guilds be a part of your time and energy that up to now remains fruitless. The "Jane Doe" suit filed in U.S. District Court in Dallas, where Amazon . com . com relies, alleges that IMDB used the actress' bank card together with other personal data to discover and publish her birth date in breach of privacy and consumer rights. The actress, whose suit doesn't describe her career and notes that she's from Texas in addition to Asian ethnicity, mentioned she was keeping her identity unknown to avoid "much more damage and economic injuries."(Her attorney, who didn't respond to demands for comment, mentioned in the filing that his client remains uncovered to ridicule and retaliation. Several stars approached to talk about the issue round the record declined, stating its sensitivity, together with a declaration filed now by Crabtree-Ireland contended when Jane Doe's title becomes known she could face industry blacklisting just like a complainer.)Amazon . com . com features a "extended-standing practice of not departing comments on suit matters," company speaker Mary Osako mentioned inside an e-mail that incorporated a November motion for dismissal in the suit. There is no ruling yet round the motion, that's based simply round the actress' anonymity. The motion also alleges they is attempting to trick everyone and potential companies by hiding her age and tried to create IMDb "perpetuate" a falsehood relating to this.Sagg needs to keep pressing the business on posting age groups and contains not removed any options, Crabtree-Ireland mentioned, including "suit or legislative efforts. However, we still hope that IMDb will acknowledge the injuries and take voluntary action.""There's a moral obligation to consider the impact," he mentioned. "IMDb covers a lot of individuals who aren't and never will probably be newsworthy, the journeymen who keep the industry running. There will not be a free account on these questions major newspaper or magazine. But details are being launched with techniques that really undermines their career."No matter the specter old prejudice, Salma Hayek demands that "you cannot lie relating to your age."But, she added, "I really think people should stop being obsessed about age the heavens because it removes a couple of from the miracle. You must have a chance to transform into anything."Copyright 2011 Connected Press. All rights reserved. These elements is probably not launched, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
