Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell came backstage together after winningthe awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The Modern Family stars were asked first about being part of a show that is breaking ground for gays. Burrell said, “I don’t know, in terms of America, it feels very, very good to be on a show that seems like it’s slowly changing a lot of minds. Eric [Stonestreet] and Jesse [Tyler Ferguson] deserve all of the credit for that, and our amazing showrunners. It’s a great thing to just peripherally go to events and just basically start to talk about those characters like any other characters, relating to their life — it’s pretty cool.” Bowen joked, “As a straight woman, and part of a straight couple on the show, I feel marginalized.” On a more serious note, she added: “It’s absurd that it’s even an issue, but where it’s an issue, I’m glad that we are part of helping change minds.” Using the word “straight” in a different context, Burrell praised Bowen: “It’s even greater credit to what Julie does that the straight-person wins an Emmy, I don’t think that happens very often. In a couple there’s usually a straight-man and a wilder character. It’s due to her resourcefulness as an actor.” On going back to the set with an Emmy when other cast members were also nominated, Burrell said: “Eric won last year, and Ed (O’Neill) actually just said something really sweet right before the award, ‘whoever wins deserves it.’ I feel like were trying to enjoy this moment more than anything — we know this doesnt last forever; were having a lot of fun.” Bowen said about her surprise win, “I kinda thought it was a lock on Betty White. Levitan: “We’re beyond thrilled with the way things have gone, obviously. It’s an embarrassment of riches, and from the bottom of our hearts we feel that Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen deserved to win. To tell you the truth, it’s a little surreal.” They were then asked what they did to ramp up the stories and quality of Modern Family in Season 2. Levitan: “We feel like we know the characters a little bit better this year. There was such dedication this year to keeping the quality up. We all live in fear of the quality dipping so we work extra hard to make sure that doesn’t happen. … I’ll also tell you that our kids are the unsung heroes of the show. What they do on this show is amazing. We ask them to do such complicated turns and they nail it constantly. They’re playing at the same level as the adults and that’s a rare thing.” … Jim Parsons, winner of Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for The Big Bang Theory, was asked first about whether he knew Charlie Sheen would be presenting tonight. “No, I did not know,” Parsons said. “My first glimpse of him was when he was putting on his makeup, and then I started to put two and two together in my head.” Asked later if he had had any further contact with Sheen, Parsons said: “He just congratulated me and said ‘that’s awesome.’ It was that sweet and that banal, actually. I wish I had something lurid to say.” Parsons, who said that he was even more surprised than last year to find himself winning, saying that even his mother had told him someone else would win, ‘bless her heart.’ ” Who did Mom think would nab the award? Steve Carell. “That was what my mother had said, along with other prognosticators. It would have been very richly deserved on his part yeah, thats really who I though it would be. To me, that scene was like the horror film segment of the movie, less about being gross, but the pure horror of having that happen publicly.” McCarthy went on to say that Mike & Molly producer Chuck Lorre fought for her to take the part, since she had never done a lead role. “He dug his heels in and said, that’s it. He really went to bat for me, and I’m certainly glad he did, it’s working out great.” As she had mentioned on the red carpet, McCarthy said she had played a role in designing her purple gown: “It’s wildly comfortable, and it has pockets, which I enjoy in a gown,” she said. Finally, McCarthy said that she is grateful that Mike & Molly has not become about the fact that the romantic leads are both overweight. She said she knew that most press questions would initially be about weight, but “if they’re still happening 10 shows out, we’re in trouble. Details are non-existent, but assuming original director Tim Burton and original star Michael Keaton don't return to the cult classic for a second go-around, some fresh casting appears to be in order. Russell Crowe Don't laugh: Crowe has the gravitas and menace to play Beetlejuice, and let's face it -- the dude is kinda scary. Crowe hasn't had a chance to really cut loose in any of his roles recently (he's been playing shades of dour since 2006), but he has a winning interview personality and the potential for live-wire energy. He also always looks disheveled, an important Beetlejuice trait. Seth Rogen To be fair, Rogen basically already played a variation on Beetlejuice in 'Paul' (albeit an animated and alien one). The gruff-voiced '50/50' star has an eff-it persona similar to the one that made Keaton's undead incarnation brusquely charming -- and hair has the capacity to look appropriately frightened. Melissa McCarthy A big part of Beetlejuice is how the character is a whirling dervish of mayhem and destruction. Translation: he's basically a male version of Melissa McCarthy in 'Bridesmaids.' The scene stealer of the summer is already firmly entrenched in Judd Apatow's repertory group, but a bigger breakout is needed. After all, she still counts the derisible 'Mike & Molly' as her day job. Shame, Hollywood! Donald Glover Speaking of overdue breakouts: 'Community' MVP Donald Glover is still waiting to vault into superstardom. During the summer of 2010, Glover pushed to become the new Spider-Man over Twitter. Good idea! That effort sadly failed, but the thinking behind it was dead-on: there's no reason Glover shouldn't have a franchise. He'd bring trademark energy and ingenuity to Beetlejuice, but also an added pathos that could make the king of the dead a little more alive. Michael Keaton Due respect to those esteemed actors above, there is only one person fit to wear Beetlejuice's red velvet suit: Michael Keaton. The original recipe Beetlejuice was perfectly tailored to Keaton's rant-filled acting histrionics, and, frankly, it's hard to imagine a sequel working without him. That Keaton has become a lost Hollywood property, overdue for what should be an obvious reentry into the mainstream, is only gravy. Marc Anthony, J. Lo Launch Fashion Lines At Kohls

FIRST PUBLISHED: September 7, 2011 2:29 PM EDT JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony may be ending their personal relationship, but their professional one lives on. Anthony and Lopez launched their fashion lines the Marc Anthony Collection and the Jennifer Lopez Collection on Wednesday. Forty-two-year-old Anthony marked the launch with a ribbon cutting at Kohls department store in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey, Lopez did not attend, but Anthony says they collaborated a lot on the work. He says: I always had Jennifer as a soundboard and vice versa. Im really happy about her line and I saw all the work that she put into it. The pair announced their split in July after seven years of marriage. The couple has 3-year-old twins named Max and Emme. Anthony said hes really proud of 41-year-old Lopez. Warrior Co-Financier Mimran Schur Pictures Makes Multi-Picture Lionsgate Deal

EXCLUSIVE: Mimran Schur partners Jordan Schur and David Mimran make an offer with Lionsgate to co-finance a slate of films. That deal uses the parties funded Warrior, the Gavin O’Connor-directed drama in regards to a torn group of mma martial artists that stars Tom Sturdy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte and opens Friday. The businesses also co-funded the approaching Rapturepalooza, that was created for Lionsgate’s microbudget films initiative and stars Craig Robinson, Anna Kendrick and Ken Jeong. The film requires a comedy take a look at existence following the fallout of the religious apocalypse. The businesses are actually determining the following films to co-finance together. Stated Schur: “This partnership is a vital part of the evolution in our company. We're excited to partner with Lionsgate on both of these films, and aspire to create a different and compelling slate of films later on together.” Stated Lionsgate co-COO and Film Group leader Joe Drake: “This relationship holds lots of value and promise for Lionsgate and our buddies at Mimran Scur, and that we anticipate exploring further finance and production options together for films on in our slates.” Since developing last year, Schur and Mimran made the John Curran-directed Edward Norton-Robert P Niro mental thriller Stone and also the Malcolm Venville-directed Henry’s Crime with Keanu Reeves, Vera Farmiga and James Caan.

Anna Kendrick Finds Pitch Perfect

In talks for an a cappella comedyShe might not have gotten the chance to sing in Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, but Anna Kendrick is looking to prove she's got a fine pair of lungs as she enters talks to star in singing comedy Pitch Perfect. Adapted from Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, the rom-com will follow what happens when a rebellious, goth-styled student (Kendrick, assuming she locks in a deal) swapping her endless complaints about attending a school where her father teaches for the stage when she discovers her musical talent. Soon, she's making waves as one of the best warblers in the school's a cappella group. Bridesmaids' Rebel Wilson (who you might recall stealing scenes besides Matt Lucas as one of Kristen Wiig's loathsome roommates) is also aboard. With a script by 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon, the film is set to be directed by Jason Moore, who knows a little bit about blending music and comedy after directing genius puppet musical Avenue Q on stage. He'll kick off shooting in New Orleans in the next couple of months. Kendrick, meanwhile, will next be on screens in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and cancer comedy 50/50.
